Norfolk EAL advisory service

The Norfolk EAL/EDC  (English as an Additional Language / Ethnically Diverse Communities) Advisory Service is part of the Early Intervention and Prevention strand of the Inclusion and SEND Service. The team is based at County Hall in Norwich.

Our EAL advisers provide a range of EAL services to educational settings. Please contact us with your enquiry. We can give initial advice, support and signposting free of charge. Further in-school support and training may incur a cost.

We offer:

  • Expertise to work alongside your school and staff to improve educational outcomes for EAL learners.
  • Information on census, definition of EAL and funding
  • Advice for the admission and induction of EAL New Arrivals
  • Signposting to interpretation and translation services
  • Support with provision for EAL children, including:
    • UASC (Unaccompanied Asylum Seekers) refugees and asylum-seeking families
    • EAL LAC (Looked After Children)
    • Roma children
  • Setting up first language GCSEs and accessing oral examiners
  • Advice on inclusive school practices
  • Support for EAL parents
  • English language assessments, advice and teaching strategies
  • First Language assessments, advice and teaching strategies
  • EAL SEN assessment, advice and teaching strategies
  • Bespoke EAL advice and support visits
  • Bespoke in-school training for staff
  • Training courses and network meetings to teachers / TAs / Senior Leaders across the county.
