EAL Inclusive Schools Award

The English as an Additional Language (EAL) Advisory Team is offering an EAL Inclusive Schools Award to encourage and celebrate good practice in developing school environments that promote and support diversity of culture and language.

What schools need to do

  • Complete an audit of current EAL provision and develop and action plan
  • Provide your staff with training, support and opportunities to embed inclusive, EAL friendly practices into their everyday teaching and classroom life
  • Ensure provision is in place to allow EAL families to communicate with school and participate fully in school life
  • Run the Young Interpreters Scheme within your school and ensure that cultural and language diversity is acknowledged and celebrated within your school
  • Share your experiences through the EAL network and Google group

How we will support you

  • Provide an audit tool and action plan template - we will meet to review and discuss the initial audit and support the development of your action plan
  • Deliver a bespoke CPD session for your staff
  • Fund registration for the Young Interpreters Scheme - this includes all of the resources required to launch the scheme; we will also offer a follow-up session for your Young Interpreters after their initial training
  • Carry out a final assessment visit to the school
  • Award you with a certificate and wall plaque (and logo for use on website etc) in order to recognise your school as an EAL Inclusive School
