The Black Fleece

Scarning Primary School logo

At Scarning VC Primary School we have started to include Year 5 in our thinking re: Year 7 Transition and what it means for our children to be prepared for the challenges of High School. This sees upper Key Stage 2 start to feel more a distinct phase than ever before.

We have a weekly Year 5 and 6 assembly that allows us to discuss certain issues and subjects at a more in-depth level. It is also a forum where we have upped the ante in terms of our expectations re: learning behaviours and conduct.

At Scarning the 'Black Fleece' has long been the prize for Year 6 when they are collectively firing on all cylinders, usually at some point in the Autumn Term.

This year we have brought Year 5 into the discussion about what is needed for the Black Fleece to be awarded. The below poster (slightly tongue in cheek with its overly formal tone) sits visibly in all Year 5 and 6 classrooms.
