Norfolk Teacher Training Centre (NTTC)

The Norfolk Teacher Training Centre (NTTC), based in Norwich, offers several pathways for individuals aspiring to become qualified teachers. Each route is designed to accommodate different backgrounds and levels of experience:
School Direct (Tuition Fee-Funded)
This pathway is ideal for individuals with limited classroom experience but a strong enthusiasm for teaching, or teaching assistants that do not have an employing school to offer an apprenticeship. Trainees engage in a school-based program, spending four days per week in a partner school and one day in professional development sessions at City College Thorpe House Norwich. Potential bursaries are available depending on the subject area (secondary only).
Post Graduate Teacher Apprenticeship (PGTA)
Only applicable suited for those already employed in a school setting where the school will support the apprenticeship route. This apprenticeship allows trainees to earn a salary while working towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). The program spans 12 to 15 months, with 80% of training conducted on-the-job and the remaining 20% dedicated to professional development. There are no course fees for the individual, as the employer covers these costs.
Assessment Only Route
Designed for experienced unqualified teachers with at least two years of teaching experience across a minimum of two schools, this route assesses candidates against the Teachers' Standards. Successful completion leads to the award of QTS. There is a fee for this route (lower than the school direct fee). This route takes 60 days and can be started at any point in the academic year as long as the 60-day end point is within the same academic year.
NTTC collaborates with over 55 partner schools, academies, and colleges across Norfolk and Suffolk, providing trainees with diverse and comprehensive teaching experiences. NTTC work closely with many of the Norfolk/Suffolk SEND schools and we can offer apprenticeships and assessment only routes for those already working in them. There is also an option for school direct trainees to spend a ½ term placement in a SEND provision to expand their experience and help them decide their future employment opportunities.
