What is PEEP TALK?

PEEP TALK is a strengths-based early intervention that supports parents and carers to enrich children's speech, language, and communication through meaningful conversations in everyday moments.

How does it work?

Delivered by trained practitioners in structured sessions, PEEP TALK combines the ORIM framework (Opportunities, Recognition, Interaction, and Modelling) with focused activities to promote early communication skills.

What are the principles? What are the benefits?

PEEP TALK values families' existing strengths. It promotes responsive interactions, boosts parental confidence, enhances speech and language development, and lays a foundation for literacy and learning.

Who and how can this intervention benefit?

PEEP TALK benefits children from birth to age five, particularly those with emerging communication needs or from disadvantaged backgrounds. It supports practitioners and families across early years, health, and community sectors.

How can this intervention be used? What needs can it support?

PEEP TALK can be used universally or targeted to support children with delayed speech, language development concerns, or those needing enhanced interaction opportunities.

How can schools/settings support with PEEP TALK?

Settings can integrate TALK principles into daily practice, host sessions, train staff, and collaborate with families to reinforce communication-rich environments.

How can families support with PEEP TALK?

By engaging in sessions and using everyday routines—like mealtimes, story time, and outdoor play—to model and encourage speech and active listening.

How can you help CYP understand and get the most out of PEEP TALK?

Use playful, age-appropriate language. Encourage turn-taking, listen attentively, and create safe spaces where children feel heard and empowered to express themselves.

National support available?

Training and resources are available via Peeple and Speech and Language UK to support professional development and programme delivery.

Support in Norfolk?

Fully funded training offered through the Family Hub programme includes themed communication modules, practitioner guidance, and session templates for families and settings.

PEEP talk is delivered by School and Community teams.
