Allergy Safety in Schools
Resources available for Norfolk Schools
Schools are reminded that the Department for Education's new statutory guidance Supporting Children and Young People with Medical Conditions and Allergy (commonly referred to as Benedict's Law) comes into effect from September 2026.
To support schools in preparing for the new requirements, Norfolk County Council has published a suite of allergy safety resources, including:
- NCC Model Allergy Safety Policy
- Allergy Safety and Adrenaline Auto-Injector (AAI) Guidance
- Model Allergy Register
- Standardised Individual Healthcare Plan (IHP) Template
- Guidance on purchasing spare AAIs, including a pharmacy ordering template
Schools are encouraged to review their current arrangements and make use of the resources available ahead of the Autumn Term implementation date. Schools also need to ensure that they implement the revised versions of our NCC model policy for schools P611s Pt1 and Part 2, and the Governors version P611b that have been updated to reflect these changes.
