Responsibilities
During an apprenticeship, there are expectations that must met by all those involved. These include the apprentice themselves, their line manager and their training provider. Each person should commit to their responsibilities.
The apprentice should
- Commit to learning and completing the apprenticeship
- Attend all meetings and taught sessions
- Stay in touch with their training provider and the apprenticeships team
- Take ownership of their learning
- Speak up if they have a problem
- Document their off the job training hours
- Work with their NCC Apprenticeship Advisor
The line manager of the apprentice should
- Support the apprentice with making time for training in their normal working hours
- Provide opportunities for the apprentice to develop and show the skills and behaviours needed
- Assist with identifying an appropriate mentor
- Attend 12-week review meetings to discuss the apprentice's progress with them and their assessor
- Provide a professional reference as part of the apprentice's end point assessment (EPA) if they need one
- Update the training provider and the apprenticeships team if there are issues. Such as with wellbeing, absence, risk of redundancy etc
- Conduct all expected manager activities such as 1 to 1s and personal development conversations
The apprentice's training provider should
- Provide a structured programme of training
- Provide a course outline and timetable
- Have regular contact with apprentice and review their work
- Have regular meetings with the apprentice and their manager to review progress
- Provide support for any additional needs e.g., dyslexia
- Offer functional skills tuition if required
- Provide preparation and mocks for the EPA
