Strengthen Literacy Leadership in Your School with the National Professional Qualification in Literacy Leadership
This year's National Year of Reading is a chance for every school to celebrate and strengthen the role of reading in pupils' lives, as we know reading fuels writing and oracy skills, giving pupils the words and structures they need to succeed. The National Professional Qualification in Leading Literacy (NPQLL) gives teachers and leaders the tools to drive whole-school improvement in literacy. It develops expertise in:
- Embedding evidence-informed approaches to reading and writing.
- Supporting staff across all subjects to make literacy a shared responsibility.
- Creating a culture where reading for pleasure is promoted and celebrated.
When schools invest in literacy leadership, they unlock benefits far beyond the classroom: pupils become more confident, more engaged, and more empowered to thrive in their learning and lives.
With the NPQLL fully funded for many schools who meet disadvantage criteria in eligible settings, there has never been a better time to build capacity in this vital area.
Strong literacy is not just about attainment- it is central to wellbeing, confidence, effective communication skills and lifelong learning. Make the National Year of Reading count: sign up to the NPQLL with the Julian Teaching School Hub and give your school the leadership it needs, to make literacy flourish.
Don't delay, as funded places are limited and it is expected that there will be only one cohort this year, as opposed to the usual two. Express your interest by 16 October at the latest, for a November start.
The NPQLL: evidence-based leadership for lasting impact.
