Autumn term 2025 Designated Safeguarding Leads webinars

The Education Safeguarding Team would like to invite DSLs to join the following autumn term webinars.  The webinars are opportunities for DSLs to further their learning but do not replace DSL refresher training.  

During all webinars, there will be an opportunity to ask questions, alternatively questions that cannot be answered during the session, a member of the Safeguarding Team will get in touch with delegates via email following the webinar. 

The sessions are via Microsoft Teams; however, DSLs do not need to have this application on your laptop. If you do not, then the webinar will open in an internet browser.

2 October 2025 1.30pm Working with the Youth Justice Service 

This 60-minute webinar will be delivered by the Youth Justice Service, a Norfolk DSL and supported by members of the Education Safeguarding Team. 

Learning outcomes: 

  • Understanding the role and principles of YJS. 
  • Understanding of the context and characteristics of YJS cohort. 
  • YJS interventions - diversion and orders. 
  • Consider how YJS and education settings can work together to effectively support children.

16 October 2025 10.30am Brave Futures 

Brave Futures is the specialist support service for children and young people who have experienced sexual abuse.  This 60-minute webinar will be delivered by Brave Future and supported by members of the Education Safeguarding Team. 

Learning Outcomes: 

  • What to do if you suspect child sexual abuse. 
  • How to manage disclosures. 
  • An overview of the service. 
  • The pathway to the service including new online referral system.

23 October 2025 9.30am The Prevent Duty: Key Principles 

This 90-minute webinar will be delivered by Russell Cole, Norfolk's Preventing Radicalisation Co-ordinator and supported by members of the Education Safeguarding Team. 

Learning Outcomes    

At the end of this session colleagues will:    

  • Understand why Prevent is important.  
  • Understand how Prevent applies to your role.  
  • Be able to identify the behaviours that might make someone susceptible to radicalisation. 
  • Have an awareness of themes contained in recent Prevent learning. reviews and where to access further information and FAQs.  
  • Understand how to apply the notice check share procedure. 
  • Understand the risk in your local area.  
  • Know what to do when you have a concern.   

Please note that this webinar will not be recorded due to the sensitive content that it contains. 

The webinar will take place via Microsoft Teams.

25 November 2025 9.30am NSPCC 

This 60-minute webinar will be led by Charlotte Nash, Schools Co-ordinator from the NSPCC and the session will be supported by members of the Education Safeguarding Team. 

The NSPCC is a Children's charity with more than 140 years of experience. They work with partners, including schools to stop child abuse & neglect. By working together, the NSPCC believes we can achieve that goal because every childhood is worth fighting for. 

Learning Outcomes: 

By the end of the webinar DSLs will have an increased understanding of the following: 

  • The NSPCC's Speak out Stay safe programme for Primary Schools, including our SEND/ASN/ALN programme. 
  • Our Talk Relationships offer for Secondary Schools. 
  • Updates on services, advice and resources for parents/carers for use at home.
