Free webinar: The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill: Martyn's Law
On Monday 19 December 2024, the Government announced details for the Protect Duty, now to be known as 'Martyn's Law' in tribute of Martyn Hett, who was killed alongside 21 others in the Manchester Arena terrorist attack in 2017. The Bill received Royal Assent on 3 April 2025. The legislation builds upon the Protect and Prepare strands of the Government's wider counter terrorism strategy, CONTEST.
The aim of Martyn's Law is to keep people safe, enhance national security and reduce the risk to the public from terrorism by the protection of public venues. It places a requirement on those responsible for certain locations to consider the threat from terrorism and implement appropriate and proportionate mitigation measures.
Lucy Canning, Safeguarding Adviser and Russ Cole, Norfolk's Preventing Radicalisation Co-Ordinator delivered a webinar on 18 November 2025 which can be accessed here.
NB: Due to the 24-month implementation period the contents of the Law is subject to change and the webinar contents was written in line with guidance as it stands currently.
