Tackling child exploitation 

Feedback from the safeguarding self-evaluation indicates that confidence to tackle exploitation was a common area for development. Here are two free training opportunities for DSLs regarding exploitation. 

Disrupting Child Exploitation: The Role of Education Professionals

  • Tuesday 24 February 2026, 16:00 - 17:00 

This session hosted by the Children's Society will improve education professionals' knowledge of their role as a multi-agency partner in tackling child exploitation. It is free to attend.

This session, hosted by The Children's Society's Prevention Programme, will: 

  • Outline the different forms of exploitation and the potential accompanying indictors of this type of harm 
  • Explore the grooming process and how perpetrators of exploitation can take advantage of young people's unmet needs to coerce them into exploitation 
  • Understand what disruption is and the different forms it can take in preventing perpetrators' access to young people 
  • Through the use good practice examples, support education professionals to understand how they can engage effectively as a safeguarding partner in a multi-agency response to tackle child exploitation. 

Addressing violence and abuse in schools | Rise 360 

This free eLearning from the Global Centre for Contextual Safeguarding is specifically designed for schools to reflect on their approaches to safeguarding when addressing violence and abuse between pupils.

It aims to support schools to: 

  • Identify and understand the core concepts related to violence and abuse in schools. 
  • Evaluate the critical relationship between individual, school, and organisational culture in enabling or preventing violence. 
  • Critique the efficacy and ethical challenges of zero-tolerance policies and identify common barriers to disclosure for students and staff. 
  • Formulate strategies to embed culturally sensitive safeguarding practices into daily school operations and policy.
