National School Governors' Awareness Day - 12 February 2026

FAO: Governors/Trustees , 9 February 2026 10:00
Information

School governors and trustees volunteer their time, energy, and expertise to help schools thrive. Through their commitment, they help shape an inclusive education system that supports the best outcomes for every pupil - a role that becomes ever more vital as the education sector faces increasing challenges.

Governing boards provide professional, strategic oversight that strengthens the long-term vision of school communities. They offer both challenge and support to senior leaders, helping to raise educational standards; they champion inclusion and equity and oversee school's financial performance. Although much of this work happens behind the scenes, the impact is felt in every classroom, across every year group, and throughout entire school communities.

The National School Governors' Awareness Day 2026 shines a spotlight on this dedicated network of volunteers, to recognise their invaluable contribution and unwavering commitment to support education - to say thank you. It also provides a moment for governors to reflect and celebrate their achievements and is an opportunity to inspire new volunteers to step forward.

To mark the day, Governors for Schools and Judiciam Education are hosting "Making a difference in 2026 - The Power of Governance", a free, day-long online programme open to all governors and trustees. This dynamic event brings together leading experts, and experienced governors and trustees to explore the key issues shaping effective governance today. Whether you are a governor or trustee, a school leader or someone considering joining a governor board, the programme offers practical insights, guidance, and invaluable networking opportunities. Participants can register for individual sessions or the full programme. To explore the agenda and sign up, please follow the link provided.
