Introducing Ask Taylor - a new support tool for young people (14+)
We've launched Ask Taylor, a new AI-assisted digital helper available on WhatsApp, designed to support young people aged 14-18 and 14-25 with SEND across Norfolk to access trusted information, guidance and activities.
Developed in partnership with young carers, Ask Taylor provides a simple and accessible way for young people to find advice, explore local support, and discover activities. It is designed to complement rather than replace the support already provided by schools and services.
We know that many young people, particularly young carers, may not always feel able to ask for help directly. Ask Taylor provides an additional, discreet way for them to explore support in their own time.
There are estimated to be up to 16,000 children and young people in Norfolk who may be young carers, with around half aged 14+. This tool has strong potential to support those pupils who may be balancing education with caring responsibilities.
Ask Taylor has been co-produced with young carers in Norfolk, ensuring it reflects real experiences and needs. It will also be put forward for the Norfolk Quality Mark for youth participation, helping to build trust and confidence among young people that it has been shaped by their peers. The tool will continue to evolve over time, with ongoing development to keep it relevant and helpful.
Ask Taylor can support schools by:
- Helping pupils aged 14+ find information and support independently
- Reinforcing messages about wellbeing and available services
- Providing a simple signpost alongside pastoral and safeguarding support
- Supporting conversations with young carers and other vulnerable pupils
It builds on the successful CORA WhatsApp tool for adult carers, extending this approach to younger people.
We are encouraging schools and colleges to:
- Share Ask Taylor with pupils aged 14-18 and 14-25 with SEND (e.g. through assemblies, tutor time, or pastoral support)
- Include it in school newsletters and parent communications
- Display posters or add to digital noticeboards
- Ensure pastoral and safeguarding staff are aware of the tool
