School buildings and sites
Who is responsible for what in relation to school sites and buildings?
- Schools are responsible for daily management of their site. This includes regular maintenance, health and safety, fire risk assessments (check this with NCC H&S)
- The Local Authority, which is the Responsible body for maintained, VC and foundation schools) are responsible for oversight of the estate, strategic development in response to changes in demography. This includes capital maintenance for ensuring schools are safe, warm and dry - all fundamental for schools to remain operational.
Where a school is Voluntary Aided, the Responsible Body is the Diocese and for academies it is the Multi Academy Trust.
