Safe To Play: Helping Children Enjoy Sport Safely

FAO: Teachers and Support Workers , 26 June 2026 18:14
For Staff

Have you heard of the national Safe To Play campaign? It aims to raise awareness of the importance of creating positive, supportive environments where children and young people can participate in sport and physical activity safely.

From 6 to 12 July, Active Norfolk will be encouraging parents and carers to ask five simple safeguarding and welfare questions when choosing a sports club or activity for their child. These questions help families identify organisations that prioritise children's wellbeing and create opportunities for young people to learn, develop and enjoy being active in a safe environment.

How schools can support the campaign

Schools can help by sharing information with parents and carers through:

  • School newsletters
  • School websites
  • Social media channels
  • Parent communication platforms

A parent information pack is available here.

Parents and carers are also invited to attend a Safe To Play webinar on 8 July. Registration details can be found within the parent pack.

For additional awareness, the campaign will also feature in a full-page advertisement in Primary Times.

Thank you for supporting safer, more positive sporting environments for children and young people across Norfolk.
