Frequently Asked Questions

What does the new programme contain?

The new Norfolk Steps programme has been revised with input from our Norfolk schools and experts, for our Norfolk Schools. Building on the strong foundations of the previous programme, it now includes:

  • Digital Step On modules to ensure instant and ongoing access to high-quality, evidence based CPD that can be flexibly delivered to all members of your school staff
  • Revised content to support a wider range of inclusion and SEND needs, including trauma informed principles, through a whole-school approach
  • Resources to support families with consistent strategies for maximum positive impact
  • An increased programme of on-going support, helping you to effectively embed the Norfolk Steps principles
  • Greater alignment with strategies supported across Learning and Inclusion, positioning Norfolk Steps as part of a system-wide programme of inclusion support for schools, ensuring consistency and clearly aligned strategies
  • A subsidised offer to provide even better value

What difference will Norfolk Steps make in my school?

Norfolk Steps has been supporting schools to promote positive behaviour through its evidence-based principles for 13 years. The new programme will ensure your school is able to develop a whole-school approach to inclusion, from the accurate identification of pupil needs, policy development, high-quality planning for positive behaviours, and practical approaches to de-escalation. It will ensure that all staff can support pupils to effectively self-regulate, reducing the need for restrictive physical intervention (RPI). Where RPI is required, staff can use this safely and with confidence, providing follow-up restorative support and reviewing risk assessments to prevent/reduce reoccurrences.

How much will it cost?

In recognition of the current pressures on school budgets, Norfolk County Council has subsidised Norfolk Steps for all Norfolk Schools to ensure it is as cost effective and high value for schools as possible. To ensure it is cost effective and high value for schools our best value package will provide your school with access to Step On and Step Up, including training for two Steps Lead Professionals for your school and an ongoing package of support, ensuring you can effectively embed the principles within your bespoke school context for only £749 per year for primary schools and £999 per year for secondary schools.

For primary schools with fewer than 100 pupils, please contact us to obtain a bespoke price.

What is the time commitment?

In recognition that schools have differing requirements, we have flexible options to best suit your needs.

The digital Step On modules are between 20 and 30 minutes long each and can be delivered in a range of ways that will influence the time they take for your staff to complete. For example, staff can complete independently, or you may prefer your Steps Lead Professional facilitates the training for your whole-staff team over a series of twilights/inset day, allowing you to spend longer on priority areas for your school.

The Step On Lead Professional training will take three days, with an option for these to be delivered on consecutive days or one day per half term or term.

The Step Up Lead Professional training will take two consecutive days.

The training will be delivered at a range of geographical locations across Norfolk to ensure ease of access and to minimise your staff travel time.
