KS2 Statutory Moderation 2026-27
In recent years we have carried out the KS2 Writing moderation 'visits' in Norfolk, at external venues, rather than in schools. This has enabled us to quality assure every moderation and to provide a space where teachers and moderators can have an uninterrupted professional dialogue for half a day.
However, following feedback from schools, starting in the 2026-27 academic year, the process will move away from central venues to an in‑school model. This change reflects a deliberate shift towards a more collaborative and context-aware approach, allowing moderators to see assessment practice within the day-to-day environment of each school. By carrying out moderation on site, the process becomes more closely aligned with classroom practice, giving greater opportunity for professional dialogue and shared understanding between moderators and school staff.
This development has been shaped directly by feedback from schools. Colleagues have consistently expressed a preference for an approach that feels supportive, proportionate, and rooted in their own setting. Moving to an in‑school model responds to these views, ensuring that moderation is not only rigorous but also constructive and developmental. It is intended to strengthen confidence in judgements while promoting a positive experience for schools, where moderation is seen as part of the wider cycle of improvement rather than a separate or burdensome process.
We are currently in the process of recruiting moderators to join our team next year.
