Recruitment: Local Authority KS2 Moderator

FAO: Year 6 Teachers, Senior Leaders, Assessment Leads, KS2 Leads , 21 May 2026 10:54
For Staff

Those wishing to be considered for the post of LA KS2 moderator should submit an expression of interest to the Assessment team via [email protected] by Friday, 26 June 2026.

The expression of interest should cover the following points

  • Detail of recent and relevant experience of assessment in KS2
  • Demonstrable accurate teacher assessment for KS2
  • Detail of experience in leading professional discussions and an example of how you have managed a challenging conversation
  • Reasons for wishing to join the moderation team - including further information about what you can bring to the team
  • Any additional relevant information

It is important that the expression of interest gives a good reflection of the candidate's personality, skills and experience as this is what is used by the panel of lead moderators to shortlist applicants. In addition, it is important that the candidate has a record of making accurate assessment judgements, reflected in their LA moderation record.

You will be expected to attend five training sessions throughout the year (details will be provided to successful candidates), which will include the STA standardisation exercise. You will also be required to commit to a minimum of four moderation visits (half-day) during the moderation window of Monday, 7 June and Friday, 25 June 2027.

Moderation visits will be carried out in schools during the 2026-27 academic year, so you must be prepared to travel across the county, including journeys of up to 90 minutes, where necessary. We aim to allocate you schools close to your home, but occasionally longer journeys may be required. All new moderators will be supported by being paired with a Senior moderator for all in-school visits.

Interviews

Candidates who are shortlisted will be asked to attend a short online interview with two members of the LA moderation team. The interview should last for 15 - 20 minutes and will enable the team to get to know you further, be assured of your suitability for the role and to ascertain your induction needs. The interviews will take place via Microsoft Teams on Wednesday, 1 July 2026. Further detail will be sent to you if shortlisted. Please indicate on your application if you are unavailable for interview on Wednesday, 1 July.
