Could your school become Prem Aware?
Children born prematurely are at increased risk of difficulties with attention, processing speed, working memory, motor skills and emotional wellbeing. These difficulties can often be subtle and may not always be recognised as being linked to prematurity.
The free PRISM training helps education professionals understand the potential long-term impact of prematurity on learning and development and provides practical strategies to support children in educational settings.
Schools and early years settings can also work towards The Smallest Things' Prem Aware Award, which aims to improve awareness and understanding of prematurity, support early identification of needs, and strengthen support for children and their families.
The award is free and involves:
- Completing the free PRISM training
- Raising awareness of prematurity within the setting
- Gathering feedback from parents and carers
As an Autism Specialist Support Practitioner within EPSS, Tayla Menear recently completed the training and found it to be an informative and practical resource that may be of interest to schools and settings across Norfolk.
