Equipment and resources
All settings have duties under the Equality Act 2010 to support all CYP. Settings should adopt a proactive approach to making reasonable adjustments, including the provision of auxiliary aids and services for CYP with disabilities.
Expectations for all settings
Resources are allocated appropriately to ensure that reasonable adjustments are made and individual needs met.
What this may include/ look like
- Resources are easily accessible to all CYP to promote independence and are clearly labelled using text and images, where appropriate. More information can be found in the Physical and Sensory section.
- CYP have easy access to the appropriate equipment that they require to access to all activities (e.g. left-handed tools, writing slopes, pencil grips, wobble cushions, fidget tools, ear defenders).
- Printed documents use a font and size that is clear and easy to read for all.
- Coloured backgrounds, paper and overlays are available for CYP who require them.
- Visual aids and prompts are used to support the use of spoken language.
Expectations for all settings
Specific resources and strategies are provided to overcome potential barriers to learning.
What this may include/ look like
- Concrete apparatus and adapted resources are available and easily accessible for those learners who require them.
- Assistive technology, including ICT equipment and software, is available to support alternatives to written recording, communication and reading.
- Access arrangements are in place for CYP sitting tests and examinations, and time is given to develop the skills needed to use assistive technology as their normal way of working.
